Still Loves His Blanket

This blanket belongs to this boy......

I was what felt like 10 months pregnant with him when I made this baby blanket for him. I was roughly 8 months and could barely reach the sewing machine to sew. I had also created bumper pads, a crib sheet and a pillow case for a pillow that was on the rocker. That matched the blanket. We spent many good times cuddling with that baby blanket. He still likes having it around, secretly he may even on occasion sleep it still. Don't ask him because he won't admit it. The only reason I got a picture of it, was he asked me to wash it, by tossing it in with his brothers laundry.

Roo's Squares

A year ago April I was given these cute squares for my Birthday. Imeditatly my daughter Roo feel in love with them and wanted them for a quilt.Recently we started laying them out to see how I should sew them together. I love the colors. But think I need to add some more strips of fabric in between the rows. I am on the hunt for some more fabric. It is like an exciting adventure as I work on it. I have yet to make it to quilt shop. Need a pay day to happen so I can shop for more fabric.

Apron

This is a reversible apron.

It took me an hour to make it. I have enjoyed sewing on something everyday. This one is going to a friend for her Birthday. It is in my opinion very fall looking. Had my computer not crashed when our power went out the other day. I would have showed the pattern that I made to make this apron. I always use old wrapping paper to draw my patterns on.

After starting this baby quilt a year ago. Today I finally finished it.

Now that you have seen the photos, do you notice anything about the pattern that might be different?

I made a booboo! No, I am not going to fix it. I love that I made a visual mistake. It will make for a reminder that this was my first quilt.

How It All Began

When I was nine years old my mother and my grandmother made me a quilt. As they were making this quilt, I would finger the quilt and beg to know who it was for. I did this so often that my grandmother would threaten to skin me alive, hanging me by my toes, if I did not leave it alone! I was a real pest when they were making this quilt.

Little did I know that the whole time I was admiring the quilt, thinking that it was for some else, it was really was meant for me. They surprised me with the quilt for Christmas.

As I grew up this special blanket went on many adventures with me. Which included many camping adventures, four years of band trips, and too many sleepovers to count. Little did any of us know, that we were each helping to creating a Love Blanket.

When I married, the Love Blanket went along with me. I would wrap myself up in the quilt when my new hubby and I watched TV. Each time I had morning sickness or a migraine, the quilt would give me such a comfort that I would often feel better just having it around me.

When my first child became sick as a toddler I wrapped him up in the quilt, whispering in his ear that the quilt was full of my love. Knowing that he was wrapped in my love he would eagerly settled down for a nap. Later he would ask how the quilt held my love. I explained that each tie and each stitch was made with love by my grandmother and my mother. My love was a part of the quilt because I had used it for so many years.

After that the quilt was called the Love Blanket. Each child has used the Love Blanket at different times for comfort from sickness, surgeries, and unhappy experiences at school.

When grandma passed away this last year I used the “Love Blanket” to feel her warmth and love again. It truly does bring great comfort to our family. Even my husband thinks that there is something special about this quilt, even though he rarely had the opportunity to have it around him.

Where is the “Love Blanket” now? For whatever reason, it has spent the last year on the bed of one of my daughters. I have asked her why she needs the Love Blanket? And she only say’s she just does. That is the beauty of the Love Blanket, it is simply needed for the great comfort that it gives.

The concept of the Love Blanket has caught the attention of my children, especially my three girls, each that has express the desire to have their own Love Blanket. So we are currently working on several, so that each of my children can have one for their future families.

Little did I know how important this simple blanket would become in my life, and how it would eventually help to tie and bind me to my own children… and hopefully to their children as well.
